The battle lines for Cybersecurity have been drawn around Artificial Intelligence

Building from the success of last year’s event Diamond IT, in partnership with Fortinet and the NSW Cyber Security Network, presented the 2nd Annual Newcastle Cybersecurity Industry Breakfast, which provided an opportunity to hear from renowned experts in Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence, including Prof. Alana Maurushat, Professor of Cybersecurity and Behaviour at Western Sydney University, whilst networking within a community of like-minded industry leaders.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), a double-edged sword

AI, on the one hand, can act as a shield against Cybersecurity, assisting organisations in incident and fraud detection. On the other hand however, attackers leveraging AI as a weapon within Cybersecurity is on the rise.

“Where machine-learning mimics human behaviour it becomes artificial intelligence. We can develop programs that mimic humans to fool malicious software. At the same time, AI is used by criminals and by intelligence organisations to mimic human behaviour.” – Prof. Alana Maurushat, Professor of Cybersecurity and Behaviour, Western Sydney University

What is the impact to your organisation?

Our experts provided an overview on the latest Cybersecurity trends and the impact that AI is having. They discussed how organisations can use AI and machine learning as a tool to fight cybercrime, the legal implications of cyberattacks and the critical importance of staff cybersecurity policies and training. This was capped off with guidance on where to focus your efforts and how to build an IT security strategy/roadmap for your company.
