Unified Communications

Unified Communications (UC) is a cutting edge technology that you will start to hear more and more about.

What is Unified Communications?

Unified Communications (UC) is the integration of real-time communication tools such as instant messaging, video conferencing, telephony, data sharing (including web connected electronic and interactive whiteboards), call control and speech recognition with traditional communication tools such as voicemail, email, SMS and fax. UC is more than just a single product, it is a combination of rich communication products that provide a consistent user interface and experience across multiple devices and medias.

UC allows an individual to send a message on one medium, and receive the same communication on another medium seamlessly. An example of this is a staff member receiving a voicemail message, and electing to access it through either their e-mail or their smartphone.

Presence is a key component of unified communications. By knowing where the intended recipients are through programs such as Microsoft Lync, individuals are able to quickly locate each other and seamlessly collaborate on work related activities such as projects or meetings, even if they are in separate locations.

As technology continued to advance, UC is becoming an increasingly sought after method of workplace communication. It gives staff the power to collaborate more effectively from diverse and remote locations, and increases flexibility and productivity in a distributed and modern workforce.

There are a number of benefits in adopting UC including-

  • Enhanced productivity and collaboration
  • Enhanced workplace flexibility
  • Empower mobile/remote workers
  • Improved efficiency
  • Reduced costs and increased revenue
